Symmetrys were appointed as engineers for the construction of four extremely complex new residential dwellings in London. Two units are detached and two are semi-detached.
Three of the units are two storey load bearing masonry buildings with suspended beam and block ground floors and suspended timber first floors. One of the units is three stories and has a basement constructed from reinforced concrete retaining walls.
In order to maintain an open plan feel to the units there are minimal internal load bearing walls and the ceilings follow the profile of the pitched roofs. With the installation of steel portal frames and ply lined diaphragm roofs we have managed to eliminate any roof ties to maximize the floor to ceiling heights.
