Symmetrys are the structural engineers for the development of this large site in Holloway, London which currently houses the National Youth Theatre and light industrial workshops in 1940s industrial buildings and a listed Victorian entrance.
Two new storeys will be added to the buildings towards the street and internally they are being remodelling to create column free spaces. These will house artists’ studios and new live/work units on the upper floors with the NYT occupying the lower floors including rehearsal and theatre space. At the rear of the site the existing low level workshops will be replaced by two eleven storey residential towers.
The remodelled existing buildings will adopt an exposed architectural concrete finish internally and for the framing of the facades, incorporating new steelwork and the existing industrial architecture where possible.
With a construction cost of £35m, work will commence on site in Summer 2016.
