The Works
The project, Ocean Village comprised of two residential buildings with a two storey car park beneath them. Topek Southern Ltd were appointed to replace the High-Pressure Laminate (HPL) cladding to the upper floors, with Rock-panel Metals A2 ‘Verdigris’, along with the timber tongue and groove cladding to the balconies.
Both new systems were supported by an aluminium sub-grid, and this was secured to the existing steel framing system, sheathing board and reinforced concrete slabs and columns.
Symmetrys were employed to carry out visual inspections of the existing structure and in turn confirm that the existing structure had sufficient capacity to take the increased loads from the new cladding systems. We assessed and provided calculations of the backing structure to justify that the panels and their support/restraint details had sufficient capacity to transfer the cladding loads back to the primary structure.
