Holiday

  • 23 Days per annum plus bank holidays.
  • After 1 year service you earn an additional 1 day per year holiday to a maximum of 5 days over 5 years.
  • If you are unable to take holiday up to 5 days can be carried over to the next calendar year.

Overtime & Flexible Working

  • A maximum of 5 days holiday can be accrued through our overtime scheme.
  • We offer flexible working hours, start anytime between 7.30am and 9.30am; finish between 4.30pm and 6.30pm.
  • Our current policy is up to two days a week working from home
  • In addition, we allow 1 week per 6 months that can be worked from a location away from your home.
  • This means that employees typically ‘tag’ an extra week to a holiday or to visiting family and friends overseas.

  • All IstructE and ICE membership fees are paid along with exam fees.

  • Principal Structural EngineerMore

    The role includes the following tasks, the list should not be considered exhaustive and you may be required to do other functions that are deemed reasonable in your role.

    • Project management – Technical. Managing yours and employees technical work, managing project reviews, managing collaboration with DTM including providing alternative solutions, deliverables on time, on budget, on promise, ensuring buildability. Engage freelance engineers and subcontractors only when necessary.
    • Project Management – Client, managing the relationships with clients to provide future opportunities, enhancing Symmetrys reputation within the industry. Ensuring response times for queries are reasonable.
    • Project Management – Financial. Ensuring projects run profitably and smoothly, keeping costs at least 10% (unless agreed otherwise with Directors) below the level of fees, ensuring invoices are accurate and client agreed before issue. Providing accounts with information to ensure they can credit control.
    • Technical Lead for the Team – First Point of call members of the team with technical queries and providing sound guidance and knowledge sharing. Assisting the associate who is responsible for the utilisation of resources within the team.
    • Staff Mentoring. Providing essential role model and technical guidance to other engineers. Bringing and encouraging engineers to take Part 3 and guiding Engineers on their path to Senior engineer.
    • Fee Proposals. Assisting the Associate and Managing Director with fee proposals.  Writing Fee proposals where necessary.
    • Billing. Assisting the Associate with the billing and forecasting of progress.
    • Sales Target. As Principal you are expected to bring in projects and participate in marketing and sales activities, and promote relationships with new and existing clients in order to increase sales.  Working fully under the direction of Marketing.
    • Strategic activities. Assisting with resourcing decisions and growth planning.
