The Works
Alfriston School is a Special Education Needs school located in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire. Symmetrys were appointed as the Civil and Structural Engineers for the design of a new performing arts building where the girls can dance, sing, and perform.
Originally conceived as a reinforced concrete structure coloured with pink pigmentation, Symmetrys used their extensive experience of architectural concrete to provide advice on the buildability and design of such a structure.
As the project progressed through the design stages, aspirations changed and the building was redesigned as a steel frame with complex geometry, clad in specialist brick cladding with a composite deck first floor slab.
Below ground, Symmetrys have adopted soakaways in the adjacent playing fields to minimise storm water leaving the site.
