The Works
This new development replaced the existing 1960’s building for Homerton Baptist Church. The new building includes a single storey basement to allow community and church space on the ground floor, and a basement with five storeys of residential units over.
A reinforced concrete frame was adopted with flat slabs to allow uninterrupted space in the church. This also allowed for high levels of acoustic insulation between floors, freedom of service distribution, and a provided the most cost-effective form of construction.
The retaining walls to the large basement were formed with contiguous piled walls, and additional piled foundations were used both internally and outside the basement footprint.
