Symmetrys were the Structural and Civil Engineers for this school extension in Barnet, North London.
The new building accommodated additional classroom space for reception, year 1 and year 2 students as part of remodelling works to the school.
The new building was split into two elements – a single storey masonry structure with timber flat roof, and a two-storey steel framed structure with precast concrete floor units at first floor and timber flat roof.
Careful consideration had to be given to the robust detailing of these structures due to the differing consequence classes between one storey and two plus storey buildings for educational use in accordance with the Approved Building Regulations.
