55 Great Suffolk Street is a Grade II Listed warehouse located in the heart of Southwark. Symmetrys have been employed to provide structural and civil engineering services for the refurbishment of this historic property that has largely been vacant for the past 40 years.
The refurbishment will rescue the warehouse building which is currently listed on the Heritage At Risk Register. The existing structure will be retained and the original Victorian features preserved, including the block glass windows, thin cast-iron columns, loading bays, manual hoists and a timber staircase.
The warehouse has high ceiling heights and efficient open floorplates that could be adapted for variety of flexible uses. 55 Great Suffolk Street will be an exemplar project demonstrating how heritage buildings can be sustainably refurbished.
