The Works
The Kilburn Square Retail Development is a purpose-built shopping centre with two basements, two upper floors and two maisonette residential floors.
It forms part of a group of two buildings including a pedestrian bridge which connects them.
There are several alterations to enlarge the retail area and to increase the functionality of the existing building, including
• two new stairs at both ends of the building to serve the retail unit and access the upper level
• a new roof over the 1st floor
• a side extension to the main retail unit.
• extension to the main retail unit at the front elevation
• addition of a new glazed façade to the front and side elevations
The maisonettes have remained occupied during the works and therefore the feasibility of the proposals had to be considered on the basis of minimum intervention regarding the existing structure.
