The Works
As the proportion of embodied energy relative to operational energy increases within building projects, so does our influence and responsibility as structural engineers to affect this balance. At Symmetrys we will consider the carbon cost of multiple structural solutions, allowing our clients to make an informed environmental choice on the available structural options. At the Crown Building this exercise resulted in retaining the existing high rise office building and converting it into new residential units, rather than demolishing and re-building.
Our structural services includes alterations to various elements of the existing high rise structure, including to the main core walls. Symmetrys was also employed to design the sub-structure and super-structure of a new three storey building, which provided an additional ten homes, as well as the design of below ground drainage across the site.
