The Works
Symmetrys have been appointed to provide structural and civil engineering services for this new Retirement Village set on a 6.35 acre site, Downlands Park, in West Sussex. The existing site is currently occupied by an existing building, several small outbuildings, and associated hard-standing and car parking. A further two residential dwellings are located to the north of the site.
The project will look to demolish the existing care home on site and create a new Retirement Village of 81 homes with a selection of unit types including apartments and cottages, in a richly vegetated landscaped setting. A range of internal and external communal facilities will be created for the benefit of the residents of the proposed village and local residents.
As project engineers Symmetrys were tasked with the following:
- Provide an optimum substructure solution for the flats and cottages:
- Explore superstructure options for the cottages:
- Provide creative scheme superstructure options for the pavilion structure that enhance the architectural language as well as be cost effective:
- Review the proposed drainage strategy and establish how efficiencies could be achieved:
