Symmetrys was appointed as the structural engineers for this extremely complex project. The structural works included the refurbishment of the existing structures and the installation of two and three storey structures on top of the existing office buildings.
Following a detail feasibility study of the existing substructure and superstructures, Symmetrys provided a solution installing new steel frames to take the additional vertical and horizontal loads from new floors. The works estimated construction cost of phase one works was £10 million.
Phase 2 of the project included a similar refurbishment to another existing building, and a new building with basement built adjacent.
The new building is a reinforced concrete framed building with piled basement retaining walls at an estimated construction cost of £5 million. Symmetrys provided a foundation and framed solution for the new building to suit the existing building.
Phase 3 of the project included basement car parking and new four storey buildings.
The structural works included piled basement retaining walls and reinforced concrete frames with an estimate construction cost of £30 million for these works.
