One Good Thing Leads to Another

On the back of our successful collaboration on Fitzjohn’s, Sergison Bates Architects approached Symmetrys to develop the Structural and Civil Engineering for this new courtyard community of high quality contemporary homes in South London.

The site was a former engineering works used to process sheet metal, close to Lavender Hill, Clapham. This complex infill project was on a tight site with challenging access that prompted us to carefully consider the sub and super structure options.  The land sloped and had variable ground conditions and many individual party wall conditions.

The site has now been transformed into a residential development of nine homes accessed by a cobbled mews.  The homes are displayed over two floors and formed around a communal, densely planted courtyard.  Private, carefully considered, terraces also provide air and light. Finally, as to be expected, Sergison Bates Architects have given timeless thought to the detailing of the brickwork facades that references the Victorian industrial heritage of the site.  It is no wonder why this project has been heavily awarded.
